Birthday Boy - Atticus!

Somebody around here turns 4 today! I can't imagine who that could be... :)

If you guessed Atticus you would be absolutely correct. And he has sure come a long way in the last 4 years. He likes to remind us how big he is getting all the time.

And with Atticus counting down the birthdays and holidays until his birthday (as his birthday comes last in the birthday lineup) the anticipation has been building. We're looking forward to helping him celebrate turning 4.

We love Atticus. It seems he is always coming up with another wonderful perspective on a situation; making new connections between words (like his remark he made to me one day that 'window' and 'wind' are almost the same and are related) or coming up with another song. He is so enthusiastic about everything, loves Mommy school, and adores being a big brother. He's just awesome. So, without further ado, here is our (incredibly shortened) list of what we love about Atticus.

1. He is thoughtful. For example, he will try to anticipate something that you need, (like Milayla needing her sippy cup or mommy needing the table set) and get it before you even have a chance to ask.

2. He has a very sweet singing voice and he works so hard to memorize the songs we sing each day. I love when he joins us in singing our bedtime songs.

3. He is quite the dancer. We do a lot of dancing around here and he is always coming up with some new dance moves. (the video below was something he came up with after watching a Lindsey Sterling video. Since we didn't have a violin around, he improvised. So creative and cute!)

4. He is polite and helpful for which I am very grateful for.

5. He is quick to express gratitude. I can't think of a time when he hasn't complimented and thanked us for a dinner. There are mornings that Jason has put together breakfast for us before he goes to work and Atticus will ask to call Daddy at work to say thank you. It is very sweet.

6. He is dedicated. For example, we bought him a puzzle for Easter that said it was for 6+ but when we saw that it was only 57 pieces and it was a nice, clear picture of half a map we figured the 6+ suggestion was a little far fetched. Well, it turned out that the other half of the map was on the other side of the puzzle and half the challenge is just figuring out which side is which and then getting it together without a picture of the finished puzzle to go off of. Well, despite it being tough for him, he did it. While we knew he could do it; his focus, determination and dedication still impressed us.

7. He is loving. There is definitely no shortage of hugs, 'I love you's, kisses and kind words for this little boy.

8. He is smart. The things he figures out are always keeping us on our toes.

9. He is a good friend. When his friends are sad or sick he talks to us to come up with things he can do to help. It is very sweet.

10. He listens. I feel pretty fortunate about this one!

And the list could keep going (like those incredibly sweet prayers that he gives each and every day, and how happy he is to help with family home evening). We sure are blessed with this big guy. We love him oodles and can't wait to celebrate the big day with him. Happy Birthday, Atticus!
