Just a few remarks

We had a good day today. We surprised the kids with a trip to the science centre, a picnic by the water, and pizza and a movie at home once we were all cleaned up and ready for the Sabbath.

Picking a movie always seems so tough. We don't watch a lot of media and the kids are very sensitive to what we read and, especially, to what we see. For example, they loved reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory but watching the movie proved a little too frightful and we did not finish it. Atticus is at an age now where he differentiates and understands a bit better about movies, but everything is still quite real for Milayla (even little kid shows/movies).

So when the choice for a movie usually comes around we are quite selective. This evening we found the original 'Cheaper by the Dozen' movie and thought it would be perfect. And it was. The kids loved it. Then the last 5 minutes took a turn when the father suddenly passed away and the mother and children all had to sit down and talk about what they would do and how they would get along without their daddy. Milayla could not wrap her head around the idea. It was unfathomable. I could see the gears turning in her head and tears forming in her eyes as she understood a little bit better with some gentle answers.

When we tucked the kids into bed, Milayla needed some reassurance. It was very clearly sad for her. We sing a family song each and every night at bed time we rotate who gets to pick the song.

Tonight was Atticus' turn. He picked 'Families Can Be Together Forever'. I'm pretty sure he knew that singing that song right at that moment would bring comfort to his little sister and to himself.  I'm also pretty sure he knew it would make me tear up.

They have such incredible, unconditional, deep love. I feel so lucky and happy to be their mom. I really will just go all mushy when I talk about it, but between marrying my absolute and eternal best friend, we were also able to be blessed with 3 more little best friends. And I am so grateful that we are a forever family because families really can be together forever.
