I came across the idea for a visit from the Halloween switch witch a day or two after Halloween. The kids can choose to put their candy out for the switch witch to trade it for a toy. The kids were a little hesitant toward the idea but when Phineas traded his few pieces of candy and ended up with a new book Atticus was sold that it would be a great idea.
His plan was that he would trade his candy for a toy and then use his own money to buy some more candy. Yep - he's a smarty.
The only problem with that was that the switch witch was on to his plans and left him a little note instead of a toy.
He promptly wrote a note back the next morning ensuring that he would not use his money to buy candy. The note reads: I promise that I won't buy any candy.
Sure love his use of grammatical contractions (he wrote it on his own). Well done, Atticus! All that writing practice is really showing.
The Switch Witch must have been satisfied with that little promise because she made yet another visit to our house and left him a bit of lego. He is sure mighty proud about that.
As for Milayla. She debated trading with the switch witch but ultimately decided that she would like to keep her candy and savour it over a long period of time. As I write this (at nearly Christmas time!) her bucket is still nearly full and she has voluntarily used it to offer treats to others. Heart of gold in her!
Not too sure if the switch witch will make a visit next year, but I guess we will see!
