Celebrating Motherhood

Happy Mother's Day to all the women who have had their hand in helping raise a child of God!

We have had an eventful day over here. It began yesterday when Atticus was going down the slide at the playground. His foot got caught underneath him and the tears started. While there were a lot of tears, there didn't seem to be any swelling and only minor discoloration. After a bath and dinner, he seemed to be much happier and we decided that if it was not better by morning we would head into the doctor. 

Morning did not bring the improvements that we were hoping for. Atticus could not even stand up without bursting into tears. We called the doctor's post (the after-hours doctor here), an appointment was made at the hospital and in we went.

After visiting with the doctor we were sent for x-rays and then we waited...

Good news is that the x-rays did not show any sign of a fracture. Bad news is that Atticus' ankle is sprained. Thankfully, as long as we don't try to make him stand on his foot, he is still maintaining a pretty sunny disposition. If we don't see improvement within the next few days we will need to go back to get more x-rays, but we are hopeful that things will begin improving.

While spending the morning at the hospital may not be the way most people picture spending Mother's Day we sure have felt an outpouring of blessings today.

To begin with, we have a wonderful neighbor (who has befriended us greatly), that graciously loaned us her car this morning so that we could get Atticus to the hospital. We then had a relatively quick visit at the hospital, getting in and out in an hour and a half. The doctor we saw spoke impeccable English, was patient and very kind; we felt she really took the time to be personable and was extremely knowledgeable. Things were not as bad as they could have been for Atticus and we got to spend the time together - even if it was at the hospital.

Amidst all of this the boys still found time to spoil me. I was crowned and given my very own scepter and a beautiful bouquet of flowers, treated to a tasty breakfast and dinner then indulged in a delicious dessert. And we were even able to talk to our own lovely mothers.

We are so grateful for the blessings we have felt today and are particularly grateful for all the incredible women throughout our lives that have influenced us for the better.
