April 30th is Koninginnedag (Queen's Day) in the Netherlands. It is a day to celebrate the Queen's Birthday. While the current Queen's birthday is actually in January, Queen Beatrix, opted to keep Queen's Day on her Mother's birthday to allow for nicer weather (or so we've been told). How thoughtful of her!
On Queen's Day there are various celebrations in every city, a flea market and plenty of people wearing orange, which is the royal color. We celebrated in Leiden and headed down town to check out the flea market and see what else was going on.
Keely happily joined in the festivities, donning her orange bandanna and her camera. She even braved a ride on a mechanical bull to show the Dutch how it's done in Alberta! Enjoy a few of our photos from the day below.
