Pieces of November

We have had GORGEOUS weather. Of course, I deem gorgeous fall weather as mild and resembling fall more than winter. And running around without jackets at the beginning of November is atypical weather for Montreal and we sure soaked it up. We had our back to back to back dentist appointments right after Halloween (well timed!) and the kids played at the playground with either Jason or myself when they weren't getting their teeth cleaned and it worked out splendidly.

This dentist trip was also the first time that Atticus and Milayla sat in the dentist chair on their own as they usually sit on my lap. Atticus still held onto my hand until he felt comfortable and Milayla held on to my hand for most of it, but it was pretty sweet and they listened really well which helped the cleanings go so smoothly and pretty quick.

Sprawled across mine and Jason's bed is usually where you find us Saturdays mornings. The kids rush into our room on Saturday mornings usually already dressed because they are so excited to start the day. I think getting a king size bed would be a good investment for us. Love morning snuggles and books in bed. I'm also looking forward to getting our room painted, the colors in there are pretty dark and not our style.

While I was at a cultural celebration rehearsal, Jason ran errands with the kids and ended up at the mall to see the new Christmas display AND Santa. Of course, the kids wouldn't go anywhere near Santa and thought we were pulling their leg when we told them that children sit on Santa's lap and tell them what they want for Christmas until we were there on another trip and they actually saw the children doing it. They did love getting to check out the giant tree that was set up over their favourite water fountain.

Speaking of the cultural celebration, Jason was pretty excited when he arrived to the temple to help pack up the av equipment just as President Eyring was leaving the temple. The kids were so excited to see a picture of President Eyring in the same place they had been just a week before.

And, like I already said, the weather was beautiful in November. We spent a lot of days soaking up the sun and playing at the playgrounds. Even as the weather started getting a little cooler near the end of the month we were still able to bundle up a bit and head out as the little snow that we did get didn't stick around. So we were out for a walk and trip to the playground and even BIKE rides nearly every day of November.

And Phineas just keeps growing in his helping desires. He's watched Atticus and Milayla help out so much with putting the soap in the dishwasher that now he gets to take turns doing it as well.

He also likes to slide his play chairs into the kitchen and use them to pretend he's washing dishes. We will fill up the sink for him and let him play with the measure cups and clean cloths in the water which he thinks is one of the best things a kid can do. And don't start worrying, he is always attended by myself or Jason when he is pushing around his little "helper chair" and climbing around it.

Meanwhile, Atticus is really into how things work. He asked to use my pen one day and then brought me back the individual pieces from it citing that it accidentally came apart - aka: he intended to put it back together but couldn't quite figure it out.

The big day for the temple cultural celebration finally came and it was a splendid (and long!) day. President Eyring and Bishop Causse attended and it was rather neat to see them here in Montreal. Albeit, a little surreal. The cultural celebration was held in one of the oldest (maybe even, THE oldest, I can't quite remember) theatres in Canada. Which was a pretty neat aspect. But the most important part was that the youth just poured their hearts, faith and testimonies into that day. It really turned out beautifully. A lot of people worked really hard to make it happen and then the spirit took the performance to an entirely new level that it would not have reached otherwise. Jason and the kids watched from home (the tickets were extremely limited) and really loved it and were blown away by how professional the show turned out. Great work from everyone involved. I took a couple blurry pictures in the theatre in the early morning before things got started and snapped one with Caryn (another celebration helper) and then we got to work.

And Mr.Phineas is as cute and curious as ever. He loves giving kisses between the posts on the banister. Oh man, it's pretty ridiculously sweet. Just check out those cute little baby legs and smile. Love this boy and his curious personality so much.

We also filled some buckets. I blended together a few different ideas and did a little bucket-filling lesson for FHE. Once we filled our bucket we did a little family outing to help fill the bucket of someone else together. To fill our family bucket we would share ways that someone in our family helped to fill a bucket and I was always so impressed and happy to hear the overwhelming list of ways the kids had their buckets filled by Jason, myself, each other and others. It really was a great exercise in seeing how we can help others around us. I'm glad we did it.

And that concludes the pictures that I had to spark my memory of November. Of course, not every bit of it is lovely and filled with smiles, but those tend to be the picture moments. I do sure feel like I lucked out with a great little treasure of a family.
