I've been working on reading with Milayla for a while. She learned all her sounds (and how to write them out) some time ago, but when it came to putting together phonetics we were struggling to make the transition. She could do sight words without any problem and was reading some beginning readers with ease but I knew we needed to make the connection for her to be able to sound words out that she didn't know.
She has so been ready to move her reading forward but we were getting stuck on it. I debated just leaving reading for a little break. It didn't feel right. So I kept prayerfully working on it and just letting her read even more books with me in the meantime. Then one day I had the inspiration to have her SING her sounds.
Everything clicked. When she sings her sounds she naturally blends them and the recognition of the word (even words she has never read before) clicks instantly.
She is soooooo excited. Beyond words excited. Now she wants to learn her reading even faster so that she can start learning to spell!
We are so proud of you Milayla! You have worked so hard and diligently. We love you.
